"What do you do all day, while we're at school??"

...was the question one of my children asked me this morning, as she was rushing out the door to school.   Watch the soaps and eat bonbons of course, I told her....take naps, sleep late, go shopping for things for myself, ...well, this child got the picture quickly, of course and just rolled eyes...

But, what do I do REALLY?  I am spending my time THIS week tackling some more major projects around the house than I would dare do with the baby in my care normally T-Fr.  Little Jan is out of town this week with his parents, so I am by myself all week long.  Today and tomorrow, I am painting our laundry room.  The last 2 days, I spent a large amount of time tackling some organization needed in kids' rooms.  And then there are the things I am normally doing, such as the morning dishes and laundry and keeping up with the housecleaning.  Of course, I make time during the day for email and occasional blogging as well!  :)

However, in addition to all that, I have padded my days with time for friends.  Today, for ex, I had Kristin Heintzelman over with her 2 little boys, Joshua and Justin.  We visited while kids played, and then took a walk together on this glorious fall day.  Then, she left and went on her way while I went to the store to pick up needed supplies for painting project, after spackling walls. Yesterday was election day (I won't say a word about THAT), so Nora Zusi, who lives in my neighborhood, had the idea that we could walk to the school where we vote together, and wait in line together.  It was a wonderful idea, and when we sailed through without a wait, and she realized we had more time, she proposed to keep walking in the 'hood, which we did.  I enjoyed some good conversation and got to know Nora a little better.   I also got to spend a little time with Joseph Delee as Monique went to vote.  Tomorrow, I am having lunch together with Anne Brewer, to discuss some handmaid business, but also to just enjoy each other's company.  And, on Friday, I am meeting some women for an hour or so for a morning get together @ Chick-Fil-A.  While the kids play, we will have coffee/dt coke and visit.  Then, I am going over to the Heintzelman's house, where Megan Sgroi will also be, to visit more.  Often, Monique and I catch each other in our driveways (she lives across the st), and catch up a bit, sometimes VERY briefly, other times at more length.   To me, THIS is what common life is like, which we've been talking about a lot.  And, it's what fills my days with joy!  The work is there and needs to be done, however, with careful and creative planning, I've been able to enjoy these friendships, with the women, as well as getting to know the kids a little bit.

And, when my kids come home, I do the usual duties of homework, driving to/from sports practices, preparing dinner, etc.  Family dinner time, household moments, meetings, bedtimes, etc then fill in the rest of the day.

Praise God for the Body!  Life in common is wonderful.
